How I Used AI and Automation to Make My Job Search More Efficient
By Adebola Adeniyi · 9/1/2026
Job searching can easily become a full-time job of its own.
As a software developer and startup founder, I’ve had to balance building products, improving my technical skills, and applying for roles that align with my experience. One of the biggest challenges wasn’t finding opportunities—it was keeping up with applications, tailoring my materials, and staying organized.
That’s where I started using AI and automation more intentionally in my job search.
Instead of treating every application as a completely manual process, I began using tools to help identify relevant opportunities, understand job descriptions, and adapt my application materials to emphasize the skills and experience most relevant to each role.
For example, when a job description emphasized React, Django, Python, or full-stack development, I could quickly identify where those skills appeared in my experience and make sure my application communicated that clearly.
Automation also helped reduce the repetitive parts of the process. Tracking applications, deadlines, company information, and application status manually can become difficult when you're applying to multiple positions. Having a more structured workflow made it much easier to know what I had applied for and what needed my attention next.
The biggest lesson for me was that AI shouldn’t replace the candidate. It should remove unnecessary friction.
I still review every application, make decisions about which roles are actually worth pursuing, and personalize important parts of my applications. AI simply helps me get through the repetitive work faster.
As someone who builds technology products myself, I’ve become increasingly interested in tools that turn tedious workflows into systems that are easier to manage. The job search is a perfect example of a process where thoughtful automation can save significant time.
My goal isn’t to send hundreds of generic applications. It’s to spend less time on administrative work and more time on what actually matters—building, learning, interviewing, and finding opportunities where I can contribute.
